Poland will purchase F-35 aircrafts from the US

Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, has announced that the Polish Air Force is set to receive its inaugural F-35 multi-role combat aircraft in August.

Manufactured by Lockheed Martin since 2006, these aircraft are poised to enhance the technical capabilities of Poland’s air force. Boasting stealth technology, the F-35 can carry various armaments, including long-range AGM-158 JASSM missiles capable of targeting enemy positions several hundred kilometres away.

Originally commissioned in 2020 for around $4.6 billion, the procurement deal also encompasses pilot training. The production of the initial four aircraft commenced last year, with deliveries scheduled to continue from August until 2030. However, the first aircraft will not arrive in Poland until 2026, following the completion of Polish pilots’ training in the US.

Kosiniak-Kamysz unveiled this development today during a collaborative Polish-American aviation exercise known as Astral Knight, held in Powidz, Central Poland. The exercise saw participation from Polish and American aviators alongside counterparts from the UK and Lithuania.

The Polish-American alliance stands at its strongest point in history. We take pride in the presence of Allied aircraft once more gracing Polish soil and skies, and in our joint exercises […] In light of escalating threats from the East and the resurgence of hostile forces, the strength of our alliance, our preparedness, and the readiness of our soldiers and air forces are of paramount importance” – Kosiniak-Kamysz told the press.

The US Ambassador to Poland, Mark Brzezinski, reiterated his country’s commitment to safeguarding Poland. “After two centuries of shared struggles, with Americans sacrificing for Polish freedom and Poles for American freedom, today, our nations stand together in defence of shared liberties […] we are here to defend every square metre of Polish territory,” he reassured.
