Join Instytut Pileckiego online for a unique chance to listen to a brilliant discussion on the aftermath of the Second World War and the consequences that were awaiting Poland and Central Eastern Europe. How different were the realities on the two sides of The Iron Curtain? When did Central and Eastern Europe become truly free and independent?
The discussion is an open panel carried out as part of the program Totalitarianism in East-Central Europe 1939–1989: History and Memory. Graduate Academy 2021-2022.

Panelists:
Prof. Richard Overy is Professor of History at the University of Exeter and an award winning historian. He is known for his vast array of books on the Second World War, like „The Dictators: Hitler’s Germany and Stalin’s Russia”, „Why the Allies Won” and his most recent publication „Blood and Ruins: The Great Imperial War, 1931-1945” Prof. Michael Neiberg is a Professor of History in the Department of National Security Studies at the US Army War College in Carlisle PA, as well as a senior fellow in the Center for the Study of America and the West at the Foreign Policy Research Institute. His newest book „When France Fell: The Vichy Crisis and the Fate of the Anglo-American Alliance” will be out in November 2021. Dr. Monika Kareniauskaite is a senior Historian-Researcher at the Genocide and Resistance Center of Lithuania and a visiting scholar at Bremen University, The Research Centre for East European Studies. Dr Wojciech Kozlowski is the Director of the Pilecki Institute in Warsaw. He was a fellow at the New Europe College and a visiting scholar at the Department of History at Harvard.The discussion will be translated into Polish.

Jest autorem licznych książek na temat drugiej wojny światowej, takich jak: „The Dictators: Hitler’s Germany and Stalin’s Russia”, „Why the Allies Won” czy swojej najnowszej książki „Blood and Ruins: The Great Imperial War, 1931-1945” Prof. Michael Neiberg jest wykładowcą historii w Departamencie Badań nad Bezpieczeństwem Narodowym w Army War College w Pensylwanii, oraz pracownikiem Centrum Badań nad Ameryką i Zachodem w Foreign Policy Research Institute.
