Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate the 70th anniversary of her reign

The actual anniversary date of the 95-year-old monarch’s reign is the 6th of February. However, similarly to previous round jubilees, the main celebrations will take place in early June, mostly with the hope of better weather.

The first part of the celebration consists of a culinary competition for a new pudding recipe. The winning recipe will be made available to the public and the pudding itself will be served at the Big Jubilee Dinner during the main celebrations in June.

From the 12th to the 15th of May, over 500 horses and 1,000 performers will take part in a 90-minute show at Windsor Castle, taking viewers on a journey through history from the 19th-century up until this day.

The 2nd of June will be the first day of the main celebrations. A special military parade with over 1,400 soldiers, 400 musicians, and 200 horses will be organised in the centre of London. The Platinum Jubilee lanterns will also be lit in 1,500 locations across the UK.

The following day, a thanksgiving service for the reign of the queen will be organised in London’s St. Paul cathedral. On Saturday, the 4th of June, Buckingham Palace will host the Platinum Party – a concert featuring the biggest stars from seven decades of the Queen’s reign. Though the names of the performers have yet to be announced.

The Great Jubilee Dinner, as well as the Platinum Jubilee Party, are planned to take place on Sunday, the 5th of June.

In July, three exhibitions will be on display at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and Edinburgh’s Holyroodhouse, commemorating the Queen’s accession to the throne, coronation, and anniversaries.

Despite the announced plans, it remains unclear whether the Queen herself will be able to attend these planned events, regarding the fact that doctors ordered her to rest last October, and that she has not yet fully resumed her duties.
