Does the city of Przemyśl deserve a Nobel Peace Prize?

In a text he recently published online, the 41-year-old mayor of the city of Przemyśl (located next to the Polish-Ukrainian border in southeastern Poland), Wojciech Bakun, expressed his opinion that his city should receive the distinguished Nobel Peace Prize for its impressive efforts in the last weeks.

We […] have accomplished is something unique on a global scale in the last six weeks. It is an unprecedented event in the last several dozen years. Of course, despite helping day and night, […] no matter the rain, the frost or the wind, none of us thought about any kind of  „payback” or any reward. We did it, and continue to do so, out of the need of our heart!” – Bakun wrote.

He continued by praising the “beautiful story” which is being written by the inhabitants of his city.

If anyone ever thinks about giving the city and its residents any kind of award or not… it won’t matter. For me, WE all deserve ten Nobels, maybe fifteen, but we don’t have to get any” – he continued.

“I am proud of Przemyśl [and its inhabitants] for the attitude we have demonstrated, and which we continue to demonstrate. It will be one of the most beautiful pages in the history of our millennium […]” – he concluded.
