What news for tennis fans! Former world number one Serena Williams announced on her official Instagram page that she was about to make a comeback on the tour on the occasion of the upcoming Wimbledon tournament, which will take place between the 27th of June and the 10th of July. 

Serena Williams’ comeback is all the more exciting given the fact that the current undeniable queen of tennis, Iga Świątek has been in a supersonic form since the beginning of the season. 

“What news… See you there!” – the Polish star commented under Serena’s publication. Is it worth underlying that by recently triumphing in the final of the French Open, Iga equalled Serena’s older sister Venus’ winning streak of 35 consecutive wins on the WTA tour? 

Serena Williams is largely considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She was already lifting trophies before Iga Swiątek was even born, which shows her remarkable longevity and perseverance.

When it comes to the Open Era, the “Beast of Burden” is the record holder of the most Grand slams won, with the impressive figure of 23. She spent 319 weeks on the throne of world number one, including a joint-record of 186 consecutive weeks. 

A potential confrontation between 40-years-old Serena Williams and 21- years old Iga Świątek would be a wonderful generational clash between two remarkable athletes.
