Rumours regarding a potential withdrawal of Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński from the government have grown loud in the past weeks. They have been confirmed earlier this week.
The leader of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party told the media that his mission as a Deputy Prime Minister with oversight over the defence, justice, and interior ministries “has been accomplished”. By that, the former Prime Minister referred to the recent “law on the defence of the homeland” recently voted by the Sejm in the context of the war in Ukraine.
„I have to deal with party affairs, and I can’t combine the duties of a Deputy Prime Minister and an active field leader of a party seeking re-election […] I will concentrate on the preparation of the election campaign. Because next year’s elections are extremely important” – Kaczyński told Gazeta Polska.
The head of the Law and Justice parliamentary club, Ryszard Terlecki, insisted on the key role of the PiS leader in the context of the upcoming general elections in autumn 2023.
„Jarosław Kaczyński is planning intensive participation in the work of the party […] We consider it the right solution because it is clear that we intend to win the election, and the leader’s activity is essential” – Terlecki explained.
The new Deputy Prime Minister with oversight over the Defence, Justice, and Interior Ministries is the current Minister of Defence Mariusz Błaszczak.
