A survey commissioned by DoRzeczy.pl and realised by Pracownia Estymator shows that the large majority of Polish citizens positively welcomed the recent US decision to station some of its troops permanently on Polish soil. The decision followed the NATO summit that was held in late June in Madrid.
The results of the survey are clear. 54.6 % of respondents said that they “strongly support” the permanent stationing of US troops on Polish territory.
31.4 % “rather support” this decision, 6.8 % “don’t really support” it, while only 2.3 % “definitely do not support it”. The remaining 2.4 % claimed it is “hard to say”.
The study was conducted on July 5-6 on a nationwide sample of 1,100 adults using computer-assisted telephone interviews.
During the second day of the Madrid summit, an important decision to change the strategic concept of NATO was approved. In connection with Russia’s war against Ukraine, the Alliance changed the concept of its approach to the Kremlin, which will no longer be considered a partner of the Alliance.
Russia has clearly been depicted as the major threat when it comes to the security of the Alliance and international stability in the Transatlantic region. The ongoing war in Ukraine also pushed Sweden and Finland to accelerate their accession process to the organisation.
