Rita Cosby, an American journalist whose father participated in the Warsaw Uprising, accepted the award on behalf of the community. Below is her statement on that occasion:
„Hello, everyone. This is TV and radio host Rita Cosby. I am so sad not to be with all of you there tonight in person but know that you and Poland are always in my heart and always in my thoughts and prayers during this incredibly tough time in the world. I am deeply honoured to accept this esteemed award by such a powerful and highly regarded company as KGHM. I accepted it on behalf of all of the hardworking and dedicated journalists around the globe who have been tirelessly covering Russia’s brutal war on Ukraine and covering the courage and steadfast efforts of the people of Poland.

My father fought in the Warsaw Uprising with Molotov cocktails and sticks, and now we as journalists are fighting for justice and exposing truth. We are making a record for history with our words and pictures, showing the world the unforgettable and irreplaceable role of Poland, opening your homes to the millions of refugees, and never wavering in your support for freedom in Ukraine’s darkest hours.

You, my father’s beloved homeland, my second homeland, are bringing extraordinary light and serve as a beacon to the world of what loving your neighbour truly means. I have always known that about Poland, for I am so profoundly proud of my heritage, but now through media, everyone has seen it. Thank you for inspiring all of us, as this award really belongs to each and every one of you, to Poland, the homeland of heroes”.
