In a recent article published by Politics Home, Conservative MP Daniel Kaczynski blamed Putin’s Russia for the death of two Polish citizens in the village of Przewodów, on the Polish side of the border with Ukraine.
The British MP of Polish origin left no doubt about his views on the ongoing situation, stating that Vladimir Putin bears full responsibility “for these two deaths and this war of aggression.”
He insisted that Moscow’s authorities must be held accountable for the numerous crimes perpetrated in Ukraine since February and that strong the UK’s strong support for Poland needs to be reassured.
Kawczynski established a parallel between WWII and the ongoing situation regarding the scale of refugees that had to flee their homes, often finding a warm welcome in neighbouring Poland.
“Millions of Ukrainians have fled, and Poland has now been transformed into one of the major refugee-hosting countries in the world […] Poland is doing much to help those escaping the conflict, but they need more support.” – he emphasised.
The Tory also pointed fingers at the EU, whose financial support for Warsaw he views as insufficient given the country’s input in helping the millions of newcomers. He explained that although the cost of maintaining refugees from Ukraine is estimated at over €8bn, the EU has provided Poland with merely €144.6m so far.
The Conservatives further drew attention to the fact that not only had Poland been warning the West about the danger Russia represents, but the country has also been working hard to break free from dependence on Russia regarding energy supplies. This element has proven essential in the midst of the current energy crisis.
“With missiles landing in their territory, Poland continues to bear the brunt of supporting Ukraine, but other countries must seriously reassure them with more effective and long-lasting support,” – Kawczynski concluded.
