Team Poland will face Italy in the Brisbane City Final

Hubert Hurkacz earned an important win for Team Poland on Tuesday morning against Team Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka, putting the White and Reds just one victory away from the Brisbane City Final.

The Pole struggled through a tense clash against a major figure of the ATP tour, the former world number 3 Stan Wawrinka by 7-6(5) and 6-4 to give his country a 2-1 advantage in the draw.

It was a really, really important match, and I’m happy that I was building my game through the whole match, and it was a really tough battle” – Hurkacz said with relief after his win. 

Later on, Magda Linette sealed the deal for Poland by dominating Jil Teichmann in three sets 5-7, 6-4, and 6-1 after almost three hours of intense combat. 

Team Poland now moves on to face Italy in the Brisbane City Final. The Azzurri defeated Brazil and Norway in the group phase.

The United Cup is a mixed-team competition including 18 teams. The 11-day tournament started on 29 December and is being played across three cities, Sydney (Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre), Brisbane (Queensland Tennis Centre), and Perth (RAC Arena).
