Poland’s “Sernik” was elected second-best cake in the world

Polish bakers can be proud of themselves. Three of their specialities were elected among the ten world’s best cakes!

Like every year, the renowned selector of the world’s delicacies Taste Atlas published several culinary rankings. Although the most popular of them concerns top restaurants, this year’s classification of the world’s best cakes has good reason to draw the attention of Polish food lovers.

Poland is indeed the only country from which three cakes made it to the top 10. The Sernik arrived second on the prestigious list, behind the Russian Miodovnik, while the Polish Sękacz finished 6th and the Karpatka 9th.

Somewhat below in the list, other Polish desserts are also to be found. The Marcinek knocks on the door of the top 10 (11th) and is followed by the Kremówka (14th). The Piernik was ranked 35th.

Taste Atlas is an increasingly popular online database of traditional regional dishes from around the world and traditional restaurants. Its creators specialise in promoting mainly local specialities. It was created in 2015 by the Croatian journalist Matija Babić.
