Rafał Bartmiński stars in the role of Stefan in this new production of Straszny Dwor!!
Moniuszko’s Straszny Dwor was composed at a time when Poland was opressed by the Russian Czarist rulers. Director Marek Śledziewski presents his London debut with the Polish Opera in London for a new take on Moniuszko’s masterpiece featuring an international cast of singers, actors and dancers and stage design transporting us from 1802 revolutionary Haiti to the Haunted Manor of Kalinowie in Poland.
Sent to Haiti to crush the Slave Rebellion for Napoleon and his French Empire a garrison of soldiers exiled from their native Poland see the immorality in their mission and change sides to help the Haitians resulting in the first ever successful Slave revolt in history 1900 years after Spartacus’s failure against the Roman Empire.
Highlights include Stefan’s aria „Cisza dokoła” and the Mazur for dancers and chorus.
