The Home Office announced that from 17 January 2025, it started the process of automatically converting temporary settled status in the UK (under the EU Settlement Scheme or the EUSS) to permanent settled status without further requirements or applications for eligible individuals if the data collected in government databases are sufficient.
According to the statement, shortly before its expiration, the temporary settled status will be renewed for another five years. The Home Office will then carry out automated checks based on information from government databases to confirm that holders of temporary settled status are eligible for permanent status.
If the checks are positive, permanent settled status will be granted automatically and the holder will receive written confirmation and their digital status will be automatically updated.
If the confirmation data is insufficient then the holder of temporary settlement status will be notified to take steps he needs to meet the formal requirements under the EUSS.
