A 15-year-old Pole from Manchester has been killed while saving his mother from a stabbing

A Polish teenager from Manchester, Jakub Szymański, was hailed a hero for saving his mother, Katarzyna Bastek, from a knife attack which took place on Thursday the 9th of June around 9 p.m. in a house on Bednal Avenue in Miles Platting. 

The Manchester Evening News reports that just about an hour after the assault, the young man died in the hospital due to a double stabbing by the criminal. His mother, Katarzyna Bastek, was seriously injured and is still in the hospital, but her condition is stable. Jakub was one of four brothers.

Forensic teams are still collecting evidence. Police arrested the alleged killer, who is being interrogated. He was known to his victims. According to the Manchester Evening News, Superintendent Alicia Smith of the Manchester Police Serious Incidents team said: “Yesterday’s attack has shocked the local community and the family has to deal with what was an absolutely devastating event for everyone.

To this, Superintendent Gina Brennand added:” The teenage boy who had his whole life ahead of him has tragically lost his life, and his mother is not only mourning the loss of her son but is also recovering from what undoubtedly was for her a very traumatic experience. Our thoughts remain with the family, and we are totally committed to finding out what exactly happened […]
