At 35, Lewandowski is the most efficient player in La Liga

Robert Lewandowski exhibited peak form for FC Barcelona in their clash against Atletico Madrid last Sunday.

The Polish national team captain not only found the net, but also contributed two assists in a performance worthy of the man-of-the-match accolade.

Despite Barcelona encountering fluctuations in their performance this season and Atletico consistently posing a formidable challenge, the Catalans approached this fixture with caution. Nonetheless, Barcelona emerged triumphant with a commanding 3-0 victory, courtesy of Lewandowski’s assists to Joao Felix and Fermin Lopez, along with one of his own trademark goals.

The Spanish media lauded his remarkable performance. Marca awarded him eight out of ten, the highest rating among all players, while the Catalan outlet Sport deemed him deserving of a nine out of ten. This victory propels Barcelona back to second place in the league standings, trailing league leaders Real Madrid by a margin of eight points.

Lewandowski’s goal on Sunday brings his tally to 13 league goals this season, placing him three goals behind the leading scorer, Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid, in the race for the Pichichi, La Liga’s top scorer trophy. It is also worth underlining that when we combine goals (13) and assists (8), 35-year-old “Lewy” turns out to be the most efficient player of the Spanish league so far, 8 matches before the end of the season.

Now, Lewandowski’s focus shifts to national team duties, with Poland set to confront Estonia in their Euro 2024 semi-final play-off in Warsaw on Wednesday. Should Poland prevail against Estonia, they will proceed to face either Finland or Wales five days later in the play-off final in the hope of securing a spot in this summer’s Euro 2024 tournament.
