At present, Europe is facing many challenges related to energy security. Factors affecting energy security include stable energy prices, diversification of energy suppliers and reduced dependence on energy imports from outside Europe. An additional issue which, in connection with the worsening of the climate, is becoming increasingly important is the need to implement alternative energy sources and decarbonisation. Are alternative energy sources an opportunity to strengthen energy security? What are the prospects for European energy security over the next few years?
