Conservative MP Daniel Kawczynski has written a scathing letter to Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of the opposition, accusing him of unfairly and unjustly portraying Poland as a benchmark for economic comparison and scaremongering that Brits will soon be „worse off than people in Poland.” As the Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Poland, Kawczynski stated that such comments are not only disrespectful but also border on racism.
The MP argued that Poland has been experiencing sustained economic growth for over a decade and pointed out that it’s an important ally of the United Kingdom. Therefore, he urged Sir Keir to focus on the positive aspects of the British economy and provide constructive advice on how to improve it, rather than making derogatory comments about other European nations.
Kawczynski further highlighted the government’s efforts to join „the hugely successful CPTPP trading bloc, the enormous progress made by our Prime Minister in the recently announced ‘Windsor Framework’ deal with the European Union, and acknowledge over 70 trade deals signed with countries all around the world.”
Kawczynski’s letter strikes a chord with many who feel that Sir Keir’s comments were unjust and divisive. The letter also highlighted the importance of working together with European neighbours to build strong, positive relationships. As Britain emerges from the pandemic, Kawczynski argues that such relationships will be crucial in ensuring economic stability and growth.
Overall, Kawczynski’s letter serves as a reminder that leaders must reflect on commitment to working together and building strong, positive relationships and not scapegoating other countries and bringing them up as negative examples.
