Daniel Finkelstein’s talk based on his book “Hitler Stalin Mum & Dad”

Daniel Finkelstein’s memoir recounts the experiences of his parents: Mirjam Finkelstein, who survived the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, and Ludwik Finkelstein OBE who was deported to a Soviet gulag. Born in Lwów (then in Poland, now Lviv in Ukraine) Ludwik reached Britain and became Professor of Measurement and Instrumentation at City University London. Daniel’s maternal grandfather was Dr Alfred Wiener, the Jewish activist and founder of the Wiener Library.

Daniel Finkelstein, Baron Finkelstein, OBE,  is a British journalist and opinion writer for The Times, named Political Columnist of the Year four times.

Daniel was educated at University College School, the London School of Economics (BSc, 1984) and City University London (MSc, 1986), and was formerly executive editor of The Times, chairman of the Conservative party think tank Policy Exchange, and chair of Onward, which researches economic and social issues. A member of the House of Lords since August 2013, where he sits as a Conservative, he also recently joined the board of Chelsea Football Club.
