Iga Światek flies straight to the second week at the Australian Open

Iga Świątek needed less than an hour to pave her path to the Australian Open ⅛ finals. The Pole gave a tennis lesson to the Spaniard Cristina Bucza (6-0; 6-1), who had simply no chance.

The world number 1 played such effective and aggressive tennis that she lost merely six points to seal the deal in that first set, in which she ruthlessly bageled her opponent (6-0). Bucsa’s only consolation in the second set was the one and only game she managed to win (6-1).

Thus, Iga continues her journey in Melbourne with authority. She’ll be opposed to Kazakh talent Elena Rybakina on Sunday for a place in the quarter-finals.

Until then, on Saturday, Magda Linette will clash with the Russian Ekaterina Aleksandrova for a place in the ⅛ finals. On Thursday, the Pole defeated the Estonian Anett Kontaveit in three sets (3-6; 6-3; 6-4).

At the moment of writing, Hubert Hurkacz is facing Canadian Denis Shapovalov. The winner of this match will face the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka on Sunday.
