Jeremy Sochan becomes the highest-picked Polish basketball player in NBA history

19-year-old Jeremy Sochan has just been selected to play in the NBA draft with the number 9. He will perform for the San Antonio Spurs.

Jeremy Sochan was born in the US but raised in the UK where he lived from the age of two. His mother Aneta was a professional Polish basketball player, while his grandfather Juliusz was also passionate about that sport.

From a young age, Jeremy was an avid basketball player and spent most of his time throwing orange balls in the characteristic basket. His scoring instinct and natural talent quickly caught the attention of his coaches, who could see his tremendous potential.

In fact, from the age of 14, Jeremy knew that he wanted to play in the best league in the world, he had the motivation, and he strove for it” – his mum Aneta told Onet.

Jeremy’s proud grandmother recently gave an interview to TVP Sport in which she praised her successful grandson. “I sometimes ask him […] about girls, to which he replies that basketball is his love”- she explained.

As The First News reports, the young star is eligible to play for the USA  and Team GB in the upcoming 2022 NBA, but he has chosen to continue representing Poland.

I just felt like the Polish national team and the GB team have a few differences. I think there’s a lot more money in the Polish national team, a lot more opportunity. And I think that really played a part” – he told BBC Sport.

GB has a tonne of potential. […] But I feel like there need to be more resources, more money involved in the game of basketball, and hopefully, that will come, but that’s the main reason why I chose Poland„- he added.

As Polskie Radio reports, Radosław Piesiewicz, head of Poland’s PZKosz basketball federation, congratulated the player and expressed his hope that “we’ll soon see Jeremy in the white-and-red shirt during the Euro Basket tournament.
