King Charles’ upcoming coronation will take place on 6 May. Additional details about the ceremonial, celebratory, and community events during the Coronation Weekend from Saturday, May 6th to Monday, May 8th, 2023 have been released by Buckingham Palace.

The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will take place on Saturday, May 6th, 2023, at Westminster Abbey. The Archbishop of Canterbury will lead the service, which will honour longstanding traditions and pageantry while reflecting on the Monarch’s current role and future.

Throughout the Coronation Weekend, numerous opportunities will be available for people to celebrate this momentous occasion together. The BBC and BBC Studios will broadcast a special Coronation Concert live from Windsor Castle on Sunday, May 7th, 2023, with thousands of tickets available to the public through a public ballot.

On the same day, the Coronation Big Lunch will take place across the country, inviting neighbours and communities to share food and fun. On Monday, May 8th, 2023, members of the public are encouraged to participate in The Big Help Out, which aims to encourage volunteerism and support for local communities.

Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort anticipate spending time with friends, families, and communities throughout the United Kingdom, Realms, and Commonwealth during the Coronation Weekend. They look forward to celebrating this historic event with the public throughout 2023.

Saturday, May 6th, 2023 The Coronation Ceremony at Westminster Abbey

The Coronation Ceremony, a significant religious event combined with celebration and grandeur, will be held on Saturday, May 6th, 2023, in the morning at Westminster Abbey. Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort will arrive in ‘The King’s Procession’ from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey.

After the service, The King and The Queen Consort, along with other members of the Royal Family, will return to Buckingham Palace in a magnificent ceremonial procession known as ‘The Coronation Procession.’ The day’s ceremonial events will conclude with Their Majesties and members of the Royal Family appearing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Sunday, May 7th, 2023 The Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle

The Coronation Concert will be held on Sunday, May 7th, 2023, at Windsor Castle. This unique event, produced, staged, and broadcast live by the BBC and BBC Studios, will bring together global music icons and contemporary stars to celebrate this historic occasion.

The public audience, including volunteers from The King and The Queen Consort’s many charity affiliations, will enjoy a world-class orchestra playing musical favourites, featuring some of the world’s most prominent entertainers and dancers, and accompanied by spoken word sequences from stars of stage and screen. The performances will take place on the Castle’s East Lawn, enhanced by staging and special effects.

The BBC will select several thousand members of the public through a national ballot to receive a free pair of tickets for the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle.

The Big Coronation Lunch

Communities and neighbours throughout the United Kingdom are cordially invited to participate in The Big Coronation Feast on Sunday, May 7, 2023. This national celebration is an opportunity to share food and fun with your neighbours, from a simple cup of tea to a street party, and to strengthen relationships with your community.

The Big Coronation Feast will be managed and organized by the team at the Eden Project. The Big Lunch is an initiative from the Eden Project, made possible by The National Lottery, that brings millions of people together every year to boost community spirit, decrease loneliness, and help charities and good causes. Her Majesty The Queen Consort has been a patron of the Big Lunch since 2013.

As people take to their streets, gardens, parks, and community spaces, thousands of events are expected to take place across the United Kingdom this May to mark this historic event and join the Coronation celebrations.

The Together Coalition and various partners, including The Scouts, the Royal Voluntary Service, and faith groups from across the United Kingdom, will organize The Big Help Out. This event aims to showcase the positive impact of volunteering on communities throughout the country.

To pay tribute to His Majesty The King’s public service, The Big Help Out will encourage individuals to engage in volunteering and participate in supporting their local areas. The ultimate goal is to utilize volunteering to bring communities together and establish a long-term volunteering legacy following the Coronation Weekend.
