Location of New Polish Central Airport officially revealed

The company Polish Central Airport (Centralny Port Komunikacyjny or CPK) presented the preferred area of the new airport also called Solidarity Port. It will cover over 40 square kilometres in the municipalities of Baranów, Teresin and Wiskitki (Masovian voivodeship).

As the CPK assures, the area was selected in order to ensure “optimal operational parameters, and at the same time avoid interference with the most populated areas and avoid places important for the local community such as churches, cemeteries and monuments.”

It is worth mentioning that there are around 3,800 plots of land with approximately 520 residential buildings in the indicated area.

The information on the preferred location of the airport area was first communicated to the residents of the investment area. A meeting of the Social Council for CPK and a press conference was also held.

The area was designated on the basis of a multi-criteria analysis, which included, inter alia, technical and business factors, and above all social and environmental factors, as Interia reports. Experts from the CPK company and external advisers participated in the works preceding the designation of the location.

The preferred location of the airport will be detailed next year as part of further work on the master plan.

The issue of the construction of the CPK is relatively controversial in Polish public opinion. On the one hand, it is believed that such a transport hub would raise Poland’s attractiveness and make it a strategic central point in the heart of Central Europe. On the other hand, many argue that such an undertaking represents a waste of money which will, what’s more, negatively impact the locals living in the above-mentioned villages

The first stage of operational and infrastructural parameters is projected for the year 2038.
