More than one in two Poles is in favour of general conscription

The majority of respondents (54%) to a recent CBOS poll expressed support for the restoration of general conscription to basic military service in Poland.

CBOS asked respondents whether, in peacetime, general conscription to basic military service should be restored in Poland and everyone capable of such service should be appointed to the army.

In turn, only 15% of respondents expressed firm opposition regarding à potential restoration of general conscription.

According to CBOS, the overall strong and moderate support for the restoration of conscription remains at the same level among both sexes (54%). Interestingly, the total percentage of strong and moderate opponents is greater among men than among women (respectively, 43% and 37%).

Although Poland remains among the safest countries in Europe, it multiplies initiatives to provide its citizens with a sense of reassurement in the midst of a potential enemy attack. The potential enemy being, of course, Russia.

One of these initiatives is the recently announced implementation of shooting classes for pupils. This does not come as a surprise, given the fact that as many as 78% of the people interviewed by CBOS support the idea of defence training for citizens.
