The horrifying story involving 15-years-old Sebastian Kalinowski, of Leeds Road, has drawn the attention of media all over the country. The teenage boy originating from Poland was found with serious injuries by the ambulance service at his home on the 13th of August 2021.
Sebastian is believed to have suffered brutal assaults from his mother Agnieszka Kalinowska as well as her partner Andrzej Latoszewski for several months. A pathologist concluded that the injuries to Sebastian’s chest led directly to a fatal infection.

Some footage recorded by the CCTV cameras placed around the house by Kalinowska and Latoszewski was played in court to jurors on Monday. It revealed Sebastian being whipped with an extension cable and hit with a bed slat as he performed exercises.
As Yorkshire Live reports, an examination of the boy’s body revealed “a number of injuries, including bruised buttocks which also had multiple healing linear scabs forming, bruising to his forehead, jaw, abdomen, and his arms and legs, as well as multiple rib fractures of varying ages.”

Although Andrzej Latoszewski admitted to killing his stepson, both he and Sebastian’s mum deny the charges of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child and neglect.
On Tuesday, the court heard how Sebastian Kalinowski died after a series of “torture” and “abuse“. CCTV recordings from inside the house show both Latoszewski and Kalinowska assaulting the boy on multiple occasions.
The court heard was informed that the abuse inflicted on the teenager became “increasingly more severe and violent” over time.
Another element likely to influence the trial’s outcome is the exchange of text messages sent between the two defendants, which have been revealed in court. Prosecuting Jason Pitter QC explained that the boy’s mother “exchanged messages with her co-accused when he was out of the house, asking him to come back and ‘beat the **** out of the w***e‘.”
Mr Pitter continued by stating that Kalinowska admitted to having “already smacked his gob” and was looking for a punishment to inflict on her son in the form of “something without marks.” As a response to this message, the woman was informed by her partner that “cold water is waiting for him.”
One of the text messages from Kalinowska dates back to the 25th of July and is particularly chilling. The latter reportedly read, “I DO NOT TORTURE HIM ANYMORE…BECAUSE HE IS NOT MANAGING, ” to which the court heard Latoszewski would have replied with a simple “thumbs up”.
In one 30-minute CCTV clip played to the jury, he is seen hitting the boy more than 100 times, pausing at one stage to wipe the sweat from his face, while Kalinowska watched TV and ate toast.
The couple had denied murder but were found guilty after a six-week trial at Leeds Crown Court. The jury took just three hours and 39 minutes before returning unanimous verdicts against both defendants.
