Poland is vice-champion of the world in volleyball

The Italians won the Volleyball World Championship final in Katowice on Sunday by defeating Poland (3-1). After having lost the first set, Italy dominated the two-time defending champions.

The Polish captain Bartosz Kurek set the tone at the start of the game, chaining incisive attacks and allowing Poland to win the first round to the rhythm of the public’s famous „raz, dwa, trzy”. Nothing seemed to be able to stop the Whites and Reds, who started the second set with a scathing 3 to 0.

While Poland won the first set with an unexpected comeback and started well in the second, Italy managed to turn the tide. In a room entirely won over to their opponent’s cause, the Italians chained three sets to win 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20).

Poland loses its title of world champion with a taste of pride mixed with bitterness. The tournament showed the huge potential of the Polish team and yet again the incredible support of their fans, who stand firm behind their colours no matter the score.
