Kresy Family are delighted to announce that on Saturday, 27th May 2023 at 14:00  BST  as part of 2023 Polish Heritage Days. They will host a Zoom webinar uncovering the fascinating story of three English country houses during WWII. These locations were used by Polish wireless operatives, technicians and code breakers to play a significant part in the effort to win WW2 ultimately. The hidden history has been discovered by Roger Yapp, a local, Hertfordshire historian, who traced the operatives’ journeys from eastern Poland through the wastes of Kazakstan, to Persia, Egypt, South Africa, Scotland and eventually to villages near Hemel Hempstead where they secretly worked to monitor enemy communications.

Based on original and painstaking research, the story is largely based upon the archives of Franek Rymaszewski, a young Polish radio operator and others that served at Barnes Lodge, and nearby Chipperfield House during the war.

“Poles Apart” was originally presented as one of four talks for the Hertfordshire Association of Local History’s Symposium in November 2020. The topic for the Symposium was “Country House at War”.
