Poles to Boris Johnson: It is time to open the churches!

Prime Minister

Boris Johnson MP

Dear Prime Minister,

We hope that this letter finds you in good health and spirit.

We would like you to consider an issue of an enormous importance to Christians and therefore hopefully to you too.

Over the years you have shown your caring approach to the matters of faith, hence we hope and believe that you will show leadership on this issue as well.

For a long almost 11 weeks we have been deprived of our fundamental right to worship and the Eucharist, which can only take place in our churches.

In your latest document on restoring social and economic life we noticed that you have down graded spiritual and religious places to be somewhere together with pubs and gyms but below garden centers and golf courses.  This is offensive to all religious people.

As we need food for our bodies you allowed supermarkets to open. Spiritual and religious needs are equally or even more important. To meet these needs you need to allow our churches to open.

Our main purpose in life is to reach salvation and we can only achieve this by regular prayers, guidance of our priests, living in our religious communities.

We, the undersigned, members of the Polish religious community, request that access to churches for prayers, Holy Masses and the Eucharist is made available without further delay.

Even in the darkest times of our history churches remained open so it is upsetting for Christians to find them closed now.

If we are in danger our answer is prayer to God.

Your sincere citizens:

Janusz Wajda
