Polish-German footballer to open a chain of robot-operated kebab restaurants

Polish-German footballer, Łukasz Podolski, wants to replace traditional kebab restaurant staff with robots. The target is to use up to 2,400 machines – not only for the production of dishes but also to serve them. The partner in this venture is a German start-up called Circus.

The plan is to deploy 2,400 machines to produce and serve kebabs in locations across Germany and Poland.

According to ‘Die Welt’ the success of such a business project depends on whether the kebab chain manages to expand quickly and whether the vending machines will work correctly at test points.

One vending machine for preparing kebabs can cost up to 200,000 euros.

According to the plans, the first of such machines will be placed in Cologne or Düsseldorf in 2025. The vending machine is designed and expected to prepare up to eight dishes in parallel in two to four minutes. The company says it should only take around an hour a day to clean the machine and its high price should be compensated by low maintenance costs.

Podolski’s first kebab restaurant Mangal Döner opened in 2010 and the chain currently operates in 30 locations.
