Pilot Sebastian Kawa won the gold medal of the Gliding World Championships and became the most successful Polish sportsman with 18 world championships and many other prizes.
The 37th World Gliding Championships in Australia was a two-week competition. For Sebastian Kawa, it ended as the eighteenth master title in his career. He previously won nine European champion trophies, two golden laurels from the World Air Games, silver and bronze medals in these events, and many other prizes in different categories of competitions.
The championship took place in very difficult conditions. Some flights took 11 hours and were held at temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
These achievements make Sebastian Kawa the most awarded pilot in the history of gliding and the most successful Polish air sportsman. His name has been at the top of the world ranking list of pilots for many years. It is also an ennoblement of the Polish aviation industry as he achieved most of his successes flying the Polish Diana 2 glider.
An interesting fact is that Mr Kawa was also active in youth yachting competitions in his early years and is still a practising physician working at a hospital in Bielsko-Biała, Poland.
