During a renovation of his house, a man from the Polish village of Konradowo found guns and ammunition hidden beneath the floor in the attic. The findings were secured by the police before they most probably found their way to a museum.
Among the weapons discovered by an inhabitant of Konradowo were “a Mod 98 Mauser rifle, a Beretta 38 submachine gun from 1939 and a Sturmgewehr 44 submachine gun with 3 magazines and were found”.
The man also found “ammunition in the amount of 403 pieces, as well as an ammunition belt with 12 pieces of ammunition of unknown origin” together with the guns.
The Mauser Modell 98 was a German army rifle, designed by Paul Mauser in 1895. It was used as a basic weapon for infantry soldiers from 1898 to 1935.
Sturmgewehr 44 was a German WW2-era automatic rifle introduced in 1943. One of the first intermediate cartridge automatic rifles. The name “Sturgmgewehr” given to it was supposed to motivate the withdrawing German forces to perform counterattacks.
The origin of the weapons is unknown but in many cases, the Polish underground state was using private homes that belonged to the partisan families as safeplaces.
