Polish startup develops first food-delivering robot in Lublin – VIDEO

Sergiusz Lebedyn is a 25-year-old Pole who conceptualised a robot delivering orders. This supplier robot can travel up to 5 km from the restaurant to the place of delivery.

To date, there are two such machines that even have names: Mateusz and Kasia. For now, they only deliver food from one of Lublin’s restaurants (Chisza – ul. Świętoduska 6). Sergiusz Lebedyn and his collaborators are working hard on à daily basis in order to develop their initiative not only across Poland but even to make it work all over Europe.

The cubic robots are 60 cm tall, have four wheels, cameras and are now even semi-autonomous. In an interview with Eska, Sergiusz Lebedyn explained the functioning of the whole concept as follows:

The robots will move along with pedestrians and on bicycle paths. If the customer orders food via the application, the restaurant will receive information that the order will be delivered by a robot. Then someone on the staff leaves uses the app to open the top of the robot, puts food in there, and closes the top of the robot. The robot goes to the client. When he arrives at the block, he informs the client that he is already there and the client goes down and picks up the order.

Even though it may seem like we are heading towards a world in which food-delivering robots could soon become the norm, Delivery Couple assures that the robots will not completely replace traditional delivery. “It’s not like we will produce robots, there will be a lot of them and people will lose their jobs. Here we are talking about a specific segment of deliveries, namely up to 5 kilometres, so robots will deliver things over a shorter distance, and humans over a longer distance. Besides, the customer will be able to choose the delivery option.

Delivery Couple is currently still in a testing phase. Its creators and designers use this period of time to correct potential mistakes and proceed to some last adjustments.
