What a start to the Spring from Polish tennis players! Iga Świątek just secured her place as world number 1 following Ash Barty’s unexpected retirement.
For the greater good of her fans, the young Varsovian did not give in to her new role of queen of the tour.
Indeed, Iga continues her impressive winning streak this season, which is now 16 consecutive wins. She is only the fourth player to have achieved such performance at WTA 1000 events.
Iga qualified for the semi-finals in Miami after defeating Petra Kvitova in two straight sets (6:3, 6:3) before dominating Jessica Pegula (6:2, 7:5). She will play against Naomi Osaka for the title.

When it comes to the gentlemen’s tour, Polish fans can also rejoice. Hubert Hurkacz has just outplayed the world’s number 2 player Daniil Medvedev without losing a set (7:6, 6:3).
The Silesian is now about to clash with the rising Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz for a place in the final.
What’s more, Hubi has been showing what he is capable of in the Miami doubles tournament as well. He and his partner John Isner are the favourites for the upcoming Sunday final against Wesley Koophof and Neal Supski.
