Polish MMA fighter Tomasz Walentek who fought against Russia alongside Ukrainian forces, was killed in Donbas a few days ago, according to Poland’s MMA organisation.

„It is with great sadness that we received the information about the death of Tomek, who, as a Polish volunteer, fought in the international defence legion of Ukraine and died there. Tomek took part and won the Second MMA Championships organised in Gliwice,” the organisation tweeted last Saturday.
According to Newsweek, Walentek was one of roughly 20,000 foreign troops from over 50 different countries who have taken up arms in the defence of Ukraine.

“One can’t find a way to die. We can only decide how to live. Now”. Tomasz Walentek wrote these words in a Facebook publication back in May 2022
The U.S. State Department also recently announced that two U.S. citizens had been killed in fighting in the Donbas region of Ukraine.
As the Washington Examiner reminds it, Russia considers foreign fighters captured on Ukrainian soil as mercenaries, to whom international standards regarding prisoners of war do not apply.

Moscow has repeatedly warned about its readiness to use the death penalty against any international fighters endorsing Kyiv.
