For the last month and a half, Balham’s Polish White Eagle Club led by Magda Harvey has become the largest collection point for donations in support of Ukraine in the midst of the ongoing war.
Last Saturday, Mrs Harvey has been awarded the Point of Light by Prime Minister Boris Johnson for her efforts.
Right after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Magda Harvey published a message on social media, via which she launched a fundraising campaign she manages up until today on a daily basis with the support of many other volunteers from the Polish White Eagle Club.
The day after Russia invaded Ukraine, Magda Harvey started collections to help Ukrainians – and the response was overwhelming.

The numerous response to her online appeal received as well as the massive generosity of the hundreds of the public who reached out to the organisation surprised everyone. Some people even queued for several hours in from of the community facility to donate items.
Across the UK, people are stepping up to support the people of Ukraine.
Here's how a community centre, the White Eagle Club in Balham, is making a difference.

Magda Harvey is now registering yet another charity foundation, which is to allow her to widen the range of the humanitarian support that can be provided to the Ukrainian people.
The Polish White Eagle Club works in cooperation with Caritas, the Polish Embassy to the UK, as well as the Ukrainian government.
As it can be read on the award’s official website, the daily Points of Light award “recognises outstanding individual volunteers – people who are making a change in their community.”
