It is no easy task to be treated like a normal everyday pupil in school while being a member of the Royal Family. A way to aim for this is the simplification of one’s name in order to make it sound more common.
As a matter of fact, Charlotte’s full name is actually Charlotte Elizabeth Diana or officially Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Such a long and pompous name definitely does not go unnoticed, especially among children.
Charlotte and her older brother George attend Thomas’ Battersea Prep School in southwest London. Rather than being treated like Royals by their teachers and peers, both of them are regarded as any other would be.
For example, rather than being referred to by her full name or official title mentioned above, the six-year-old princess is simply being called Charlotte Cambridge. In school or even with her family, Princess Charlotte is often referred to as “Cheeky”.
But in her year two class, she has followed in her brother, dad, and uncle’s footsteps in just using her parents’ title as her surname, with her friends knowing her as Charlotte Cambridge. He is technically George Alexander Louis, His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge but simply goes by George Cambridge.
Back in the days, their dad William and uncle Prince Harry used the same method for their names, using Charles’ title – Wales – as their surname. Princess Charlotte “Cheeky” Cambridge is fourth in the line of succession to the British throne.
