The Grand Chess Tour competition is organised at the Polin Warsaw Conference Center by the Superbet Foundation.
The top chess players from all over the world are taking part in the prestigious competition. This list includes among others Levon Aronian, Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, Richard Rapport, Anton Korbov, Kiril Shevchenko, but also Polish stars Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Radek Wojtaszek.
In the context of his arrival in the Polish capital, the Russian chess icon Garri Kasparov praised the evolution of chess in Poland.
“Poland can boast a great history related to chess, and now it is experiencing a real renaissance, thanks to the successes of Polish players,” the Russian grandmaster told the media.
“I know that the attention of Polish fans will be focused on Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Radek Wojtaszek, but I do not want to indicate the favourites, because watching tournaments from the perspective of a chess fan always gives me the most pleasure,” he added.
The prize money for the winner of the competition amounts to $175,000.
