‘Superloop’ express bus service proposed for London

TfL has announced that as part of the launch of the new superfast Superloop service, six new bus routes will be created, and four of already existing will be included and operate under the new name.

„We’re working on an ambitious programme to grow the bus network in outer London and create faster connections, provide better coverage and more direct, frequent services.” – TfL informs on their website.

The proposed new routes could add over 4 million kilometres on to London’s bus network. The Superloop is a part of £6m investment by the Mayor for improvements to outer London bus services.

New services are planned between North Finchley and Harrow, North Finchley and Walthamstow and between Walthamstow and Royal Docks via Ilford. There are also plans to create future links between Hillingdon, Hounslow, Brent, Bexleyheath, Bromley, Sutton and Havering.

Fares will be the same as current TfL bus services, but new buses will have limited stops along the route, resulting in shorter journeys. Four of TfL’s existing express bus routes – 607, X26, X140 and X68 – will be rebranded as the new Superloop.

The idea is to connect towns and vital services such as hospitals and airports in outer London.

Chief Customer and Strategy Officer at Transport for London, Alex Williams said that „The Superloop complements a million additional bus kilometres committed by the mayor in the capital’s outer ring and includes improvements from Sutton in the south to Brent Cross in the north, as well as transformational changes to London’s rail network outside the centre of the city.”

„Millions across the capital use the bus every day, and we are delighted that thousands more will now benefit from a joined-up public transport network thanks to the introduction of Superloop services.” – Ben Curtis of Campaign for Better Transport informed.

The Superloop is only an initial proposal at the moment, and exact routes and stops will be decided in consultation by TfL with London boroughs and the public.
