Ten Polish cities listed among Europe’s economic “Tiger” metropolises

Poland has made a striking showing in a recent ranking of Europe’s fastest-growing cities: ten Polish metropolises are counted among the top twenty “tiger cities” in Europe for the period 2010–2025.

According to analysts at Oxford Economics who based on the Eurostat data, this extraordinary performance is largely due to the expansion of business services sectors such as IT, finance, and administrative operations not only in capitals but also in smaller Polish cities.

However, looking ahead to 2025–2040, the outlook is more moderate: only four of those ten Polish cities are projected to maintain their rapid growth, namely Wrocław, Kraków, Poznań, and Gdańsk.

In part, the slowdown is attributed to demographic headwinds (ageing populations, declining labour force) and historically low levels of investment in Poland will likely affect the pace of expansion.

The Polish cities listed in the ranking (by highest GDP growth) are:

  • Wrocław,
  • Gdańsk,
  • Kraków,
  • Warsaw,
  • Poznań,
  • Szczecin,
  • Białystok,
  • Lublin,
  • Katowice
  • and Bydgoszcz.

It means that half of the cities with greatest GDP growth in Europe in the last 10 years were located in Poland.

According to the authors of the report demographic challenges remain a key threat to Polish growth.
