The British army has joined NATO exercise in Poland

Last week, approximately 100 soldiers from Britain’s 7th Air Defence Group participated in NATO’s Ramstein Legacy 22 exercise, in Poland.

Commander Col. Graham Taylor said that the major air defence exercise has been carried out to improve “procedural, technical, and human integration in real-world scenarios among NATO partners.

The British combat units that participated in the drill included the 16th Regiment Royal Artillery, 12th Regiment Artillery, and the 106th  Regiment Royal Artillery.

According to The Defense Post, the 12th and 16th regiments specialise in the Stormer and Sky Sabre missile defence systems, while the 106th  Regiment Royal Artillery serves as the British Army’s sole anti-warfare regiment.

Ramstein Legacy is really important. It’s a build-up of NATO exercises that have been taking place over the past 5-6 years. It is an opportunity for all the NATO air defence countries to get together and to exercise Integrated Air and Missile Defence,” Col. Taylor explained.

The commander underlined that the drill had already been planned two years ago and was “not intended as a countermeasure” to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Defence Post reports that the exercise involved Surface Based Air and Missile Defence units and personnel from 17 NATO countries. They operated from bases in Poland and the Baltic States.
