The significance of the event is far-reaching. So far, no Polish commander has been in a British museum. The author of the bust is the Polish sculptor Andrzej Pityński, author of the famous Katyń Monument from New Jersey. The bust was funded by several hundred people who took part in the social fundraiser, including contribution from Polish Sue. Donors are primarily British Polonia, but donations also came from Poland and the USA.

The sculpture unveiling ceremony is scheduled for 25 June 2021. From June 26, the bust will be available for viewing to a wide audience. The general’s daughter, Ambassador Anna Maria Anders, will come from Rome on this occasion. “I am happy that my father will soon be honoured in the country where he made his life! The National Army Museum is a very prestigious public place. Anyone who comes to see him will be able to learn about the heroism of Polish soldiers,” she told the British Poles portal, who were also initiators of the event.

Having a bust of General Anders in the National Army Museum will be a powerful symbol of the close friendship between Poland and Great Britain. The friendship formed in the sky above England, on the battlefields of Italy and northwest Europe and continued today.
