The Christmas market of Kraków was elected as the best in Europe in a ranking published last month by Christmas Tree World, Britain’s main seller of Christmas trees. The criteria taken into account included cities’ markets popularity on social media (TikTok and Instagram), the affordability of the accommodation, and the number of annual Google searches.
The British company describes the Kraków Christmas market as “one of the most picture-perfect settings for a Christmas market that you can imagine. It is spread around Kraków’s huge and medieval Main Square, and punters can sip mulled wine and even mulled beers to their heart’s content. […] It offers some of the best meat quality around, with seasoned grilled sausages sourced from local farms, as well as hearty and warm soups to keep you warm in Poland’s chilly conditions” we read in the report.
The capital of Lesser Poland is by far the country’s most popular tourist spot. It attracted over 14 million visitors in 2019 alone and most statistics indicate that these figures are going to be surpassed by the end of 2023. It is worth reminding that the 2020-2022 period was unusual – to say the least – due to the numerous epidemiological restrictions implemented across the continent.
A report published by the Polish Rzeczpospolita newspaper indicates that the record number of people served by the Kraków airport was beaten already in July, with over 5.3 million passengers. rose significantly compared with four years ago.
Interestingly, Poland is the only country to feature more than two times in the ranking. Behind Kraków – which finished first, the Lower Silesian capital Wrocław arrived 5th in front of the capital of Greater Poland Poznań (6th).
Long story short, if you are looking for the ideal place to take your loved one(s) to a fairy-tale-like place in the upcoming weeks for an affordable price, you now know where to go. The Kraków Christmas market is to be launched on Friday 24 November and last 33 days. It will – as usual – be located in Kraków’s romantic market square.
