The Dudley Community Church recently posted a plea for help on social media aimed at providing material support for those fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Representatives of the congregation told the BBC that people “have been coming day after day„.

Pastor Joe Hayes added that „within a couple of hours, we had about 70 cars roll up„.
The Dudley church has a mixed English/Polish congregation which felt the urge to do something useful in the midst of the ongoing large-scale humanitarian crisis striking Eastern Europe.

„We are in danger of a humanitarian crisis, that is why we are quickly reacting, mobilising, we are highly motivated to help,” Paulina Jastrzębska explained.
Students and staff have been so generous with donations for those suffering in Ukraine. Items will be passed on to The Lighthouse Centre in Dudley to be sent on to Poland, near the Ukrainian border, by Dudley Community Polish Church. Among the numerous donated items, there are children’s toys, sleeping bags, and hygiene products among other things. In less than a week, three large vans could be filled with all the gathered items.

Like in other similar cases, the Dudley Community Church even had to ask people to stop bringing additional things as there was no place to stock them anymore.
