The characteristic Toruń property has been designed in 2013 by architects from the Medusa Group studio and covers merely 26 square meters. It is at the same time a work of art and a garden sculpture.
What do experts find so special about this house? Well, they point out its remarkable workmanship and its unique architectural concept inspired by Japanese origami.
The most remarkable prize awarded to this project is its nomination for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2022.
This prestigious prize is awarded every second year to projects completed in the previous 24 months. Toruń has had only one representative in this competition so far, namely CKK Jordanki in 2017.
Last autumn, Origami House won the first prize in the 2021 edition of the Architecture of the Year of the Silesian Voivodeship competition organised by the Association of Polish Architects, Katowice Branch, and the Silesian Regional Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland. The Toruń house sculpture was awarded in the „export work” category.
As the jury explained, the Origami House has been awarded the first prize for its “minimalism, simplicity, lightness and detail, and above all, the universality of the facility”.
“This facility would look great both in the urban space and in undeveloped areas” – representatives of the Silesian SARP Branch explained.
