Poles designated their politician of the year 2022

A recent poll conducted by CBOS reveals who Poles consider having been the politicians of the year 2022.

Respondents were asked “which of the Polish politicians deserves the title of politician of the year?„. Although over half of the respondents (55%) didn’t indicate anyone who could be qualified, the latest CBOS poll leaves no doubt about the winner, whose name is Andrej Duda.

Indeed, Poland’s President prevailed in this symbolic race despite having been named by only 12% of the surveyed. Duda still gathered a much higher score than the two other politicians on the podium: PM Mateusz Morawiecki and former PM Donald Tusk, both at 6%.

The leader of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party Jarosław Kaczyński received 5% of the votes, followed by the Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski (4%), and the leader of Poland 2050 Szymon Hołownia (2%).

The remaining politicians who gathered more than 1% are Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, Confederation’s leader Krzysztof Bosak, Sławomir Mentzen, and Grzegorz Braun.

The poll also included a question about Poles’ favourite international politician. Respondents were asked which of the foreign politicians operating on the world stage deserves the title of politician of the year. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky comfortably won this part of the poll (20 %), followed by US President Joe Biden (15%)

Former US President Donald Trump took the following places, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, former President of the European Council Donald Tusk, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, with 1% each.
