Maksymilian Stryjek: the rising star of Polish goalkeeping

Maksymilian “Max” Stryjek is a Polish goalkeeper performing for Wycombe Wanderers (League One). He’s been gathering increasingly positive reviews lately. He’s even believed to being compared by his club’s fans to the famous English goalkeeper David Seaman.

In a recent league match win against Peterborough United (3:0), Stryjek was truly heroic on several occasions. In the first half, he miraculously rushed out of his goal to prevent a rival striker from being decisive.

His teammates and opponents don’t hide their admiration for the 26-year-old Varsovian. His club manager, Gareth Ainsworth, praised him after the game against Peterborough. “I don’t know a goalkeeper who performs better than he does nowadays” – he explained.

There are indeed good reasons to be impressed. In 24 appearances this season, “Max” has kept 10 clean sheets, including five in his last eight games!

Wycombe fans are delighted with the summer signing of the club, which they express on social media. „In terms of positioning, he reminds me of David Seaman,” wrote one. „It’s fantastic! When the ball goes into our penalty area, I’m not worried at all. We have signed a great goalkeeper of good age,” added another.

Stryjek was born in Warsaw and is a former representative of the Polish youth team. He began playing football for his school at the age of 6. He signed for Polonia Warsaw at the age of 11 and moved to Sunderland in 2013.

He then played successively for Boston United, Accrington Stanley, Eastleigh, and Livingston, where he kept 24 clean sheets in 71 appearances. He arrived in Wycombe in August 2022.
