President Duda swore in Poland’s new government

President Andrzej Duda swore in Poland’s new government led by Donald Tusk in Warsaw’s Presidential Palace on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday night, the Parliament gave a vote of confidence to the cabinet of the new parliamentary majority.

Donald Tusk was elected as Prime Minister by the Sejm in what experts refer to as the second constitutional step. The government designated by Mateusz Morawiecki in late November first lost a confidence vote on Monday. On Thursday already, Tusk will be in Brussels for this the last summit of the European Council of the year.

I am open to cooperation […] We come from different political camps but I am convinced that in important matters, such as security, it is possible for us to talk, share our opinions, and make decisions […] I can assure you that I will certainly not oppose or block anything that serves the good of citizens and the Republic of Poland ” – President Duda assured the media.

I hope that the president and I have a common goal, serving Poland, even if we have different paths and experiences, sometimes very different” – Donald Tusk told TVN.

After appointing and swearing in the new cabinet, stated, President Duda recalled the words of the late President Lech Kaczyński: “It is worth to be a Pole, it is worth for the Polish nation and its state – the Republic, to endure in Europe.

Those who are safe in this homeland have the sense that it is their homeland, which cares for them and advocates for their affairs […] I deeply believe this is the most important motto that guides us” – the Head of State added.

In an IBRiS poll published on Wednesday by broadcaster Radio Zet is to be believed, nearly two-thirds of Poles (65.5%) do not believe Andrzej Duda will be able to cooperate with Donald Tusk’s government, while only 29% said that he would.
