The 20th edition of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Video Games Awards took place last Thursday at London’s Southbank Centre arts complex.
The video game “Cyberpunk 2077”, created by the Polish studio CD Projekt Red, won an award in the “Evolving Game” category. “Cyberpunk 2077” was also nominated in the “EE Players” Choice” category, but this accolade was ultimately claimed by “Baldur’s Gate 3”.
Nominated in 11 out of 18 categories and taking home 5 trophies, “Baldur’s Gate 3” emerged as the biggest winner of Thursday’s ceremony. Other BAFTA categories won by “Baldur’s Gate 3” this year were “Best Game”, “Best Music”, “Best Narrative”, and “Best Supporting Role Performance”.
Despite being one of the most highly expected video games ever and reportedly the second most expensive in terms of production costs, “Cyberpunk 2077” faced criticism upon release due to bugs, performance issues, and other technical problems, drawing commentary from players and experts alike.

Securing victory in the “Evolving Game” category at the 2024 BAFTAs, the Polish developers of “Cyberpunk 2077” demonstrate their commitment to addressing these issues, and their success in resolving them. The sustained sales figures and steadily improving rating scores of their game further validate this accomplishment.
The “Evolving Game” award recognises games with the best ongoing support from their developers, including consistent updates to remove bugs, optimise performance, and expand gameplay.
