The Civic Coalition wins the European elections in a tight race with Law and Justice

On Sunday 9 June, about 40% of Poles went to vote for the European Parliament elections. 

The Civic Coalition (37,06%) and Law and Justice (36.16%) emerged once more as the two greatest forces. Aside from this tight race on top, the Confederation performed well by reaching 12,08%. Poland 2050 underperformed with 6,91% while the Left could not do better than 6,30%. All the remaining parties did not reach the 1% threshold, although the Nonpartisan Local Government Officials came close to do so with 0,93%. 

The Civic Coalition won in eight districts. Law and Justice (PiS) won in the remaining five. In district 1 (Pomeranian Voivodeship), KO received 51.06% and PiS 28.07%; in district 2 (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship), KO received 44.38% and PiS 31.30%; in district 3 (Podlaskie and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships), KO received 37.36% and PiS 36.75%; in district 4 (part of the Masovian Voivodeship, Warsaw, and abroad), KO received 44.46% and PiS 24.82%. 

Additionally, KO won in district 7 (Greater Poland Voivodeship) with 38.85% while PiS received 28.92%; in district 11 (Silesian Voivodeship), KO received 41.42% and PiS 36.45%; in district 12 (Lower Silesian and Opole Voivodeships), KO received 41.59% and PiS 31.48%; and in district 13 (Lubusz and West Pomeranian Voivodeships), KO received 44.49% and PiS 29.77%.

In district 5, covering part of the Masovian Voivodeship, PiS received 49.17% and KO 23.81%. PiS also won in district 6 (Łódź Voivodeship) with 38.60% while KO received 33.29%; in district 8 (Lublin Voivodeship) with 47.16% while KO received 26%; in district 9 (Subcarpathian Voivodeship) with 52.87% while KO received 23.73%; and in district 10 (Lesser Poland and Świętokrzyskie Voivodeships) with 44.05% while KO received 25.96%.

Poles residing abroad mostly voted for the Civic Coalition. In the UK, KO gathered 40,27% of the votes followed by the Confederation (20,71%), Law and Justice (17,15%) and the Left (15,74%). Poland 2050 got only 5,09%. 

KO and PiS secured 21 and 20 seats respectively in the European parliament. The Confederation will have 6 MEPs, while Poland 2050 and the Left both secured 3 seats.
