Robert Lewandowski wrote yet another page in football history

In our recent article, we told you about Robert Lewandowski’s great form. Well, the captain of Poland’s national team simply refuses to slow down and goes on reaching one milestone after another.

On Sunday night, FC Barcelona was welcoming Sevilla at the Camp Nou. The home team won comfortable (5-1) and remains the leader of La Liga. Polish fans hoped to see Wojciech Szczęsny in the goal. The Polish goalkeeper joined Barça a few weeks ago and was expected to make his debut. Eventually, Wojtek’s start was postponed by Hansi Flick.

As it is often the case, it is Robert Lewandowski who stole the show. The Polish striker scored a brace in the first half. By doing so, “Lewy” became the third player with the most goals in the top 5 leagues. The latter include the Premier League (England), La Liga (Spain), Serie A (Italy), Bundesliga (Germany) and Ligue 1 (France). With his 365th and 366th shots on target, the Pole took over the German striker Gerd Müller in this regard. Only Leo Messi and Cruistiano Ronaldo scored more in these elite competitions, both legends found the net almost 500 times.

“Lewangoalski” scored most of his club goals in the German league (312) where he played for over a decade, initially for Borussia Dortmund and then for Bayern Munich. His move to Barcelona was perceived by some as the beginning of the end of à great career. However, the 36-year-old Varsovian proved these doubters wrong with every passing week.

This season, Lewandowski has also become the only player except Leo Messi to score 12 goals in his first 10 La Liga games. He is currently by far the most efficient player of the Spanish league with already the 12 goals mentioned above and 2 assists, twice as much as Kylian Mbappe.

On Wednesday night, the Catalans are hosting Bayern Munich for an important Champions League game. Three days later, the Blaugranas will be facing their historical rival Real Madrid, in a deciding match for the leadership position in the Spanish league’s ranking.
