Sadiq Khan is reportedly set to receive a knighthood in the New Year Honours

The name of Sadiq Khan is mentioned among those listed to be granted a noble title. The first Muslim mayor of the city of London now rules for his 3rd term.

Sadiq Khan (54) was a deputy to the House of Commons until 2016 when he became the mayor of London for a record time.

He was born at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, South London as the fifth of eight children (seven sons and a daughter) to a Pakistani migrant family.

Khan was raised in tough conditions, but thanks to hard work he managed to graduate from the School of Law at the University of North London.

Sadiq Khan was mentioned in the media reports next to another “Labour veteran” Emily Thornberry.

His long political and public service legitimises the idea of honouring Khan with a knighthood.

The idea created criticism from the London mayor’s opponents pointing out that during Khan’s time in office, violent crime skyrocketed in the British capital.

According to various estimates, knife crimes went up 52%, residential burglaries up 37%  robberies up 59% and homicides went up 26%.

During his last campaign for mayor, Khan promised a „safer, fairer and greener” London for all which could be most appealing to the Green and Liberal Democrat voters.

Khan also promised to build new 40,000 council homes.

The information about one’s name being listed in the New Year honours does not mean individuals know about such a fact.
